The NCAA released the first report of the regional rankings late last week (Oct. 25), and the Saint Benedict volleyball team checks in fourth.

In the Central Region, the Blazers come in behind No. 1 St. Thomas, No. 2 Washington-St. Louis and No. 3 Augsburg.

The Blazers were 21-2 at the time of the rankings, but have since helped their case with a sweep over Concordia, who entered the match with a perfect MIAC record, and was one of just two teams all season to beat the top-ranked Tommies.

Rounding out the poll is Coe in fifth place and Nebraska Wesleyan in sixth.

When it comes to NCAA Tournament berths, conference tournament champions receive an automatic bid, while the highest ranked remaining teams in the regional rankings receive at-large berths.

The Blazers earned an at-large berth in each of the last two seasons, while two years ago, the MIAC had three teams make the 64-team field as at-large teams.

Saint Benedict wraps up the season tonight (Oct. 29) on the road at Macalester. The Blazers enter the game at 23-2 on the year and with a MIAC Tournament berth already locked up at 8-2 in conference play. The Scots are closing out a 4-6 MIAC campaign, and will be looking to finish the season with a record above .500, entering the night at 13-13 overall.

Last season, also in St. Paul, the Blazers won a 3-0 match over the Scots, holding MAC under 14 points in each the second and third sets.

The two teams are trending different ways heading to the game, as the Blazers are looking for their 10th straight win, while the Scots have lost their last two, and three of their last four. They were swept by Augsburg on Saturday, knocking them out of the conference tournament race.

Worth watching though, will be the Scots attack, as they hit .219 as a team, which ranks fourth in the MIAC behind only top-25 teams CSB, St. Thomas and Augsburg.

The first serve is set for 7 p.m. tonight.
