As the Saint Benedict volleyball team faces off against Concordia on Saturday (Oct. 26) for their last regular season home game of the year, they take time to acknowledge this year's senior class. Seniors
Lexi Alm,
Kathryn Gaydos,
Kendra Coleman and
Chelsea Rachel, will be playing their last regular season home game of their careers and look to walk away with their ninth consecutive win. With all of these players never seeing fewer than 18 wins in a season, there is much cause for celebration on the amount of success these seniors have witnessed and attributed to.
Â
Each of these seniors look back on the past four years and see challenges met and obstacle overcome. While looking back on goals set during her first season, Gaydos was able to see many of these goals reached. "One of my goals was to be a team captain--someone that younger players could look up to and turn to when they had problems," she explained. "I am deeply touched by the level of trust they place in me, and I couldn't ask for more."
Â
"My goal was to play volleyball, and to positively contribute to the team's success," said Alm, who is currently ranked No. 6 in the team's all-time kills list with time to climb even higher. These players can also look back on a team that has made it to regionals twice in the past three years, with plans on making it again this year, and a team worthy of reaching the sweet sixteen last season.
Â
The seniors have also had a blast on top of their success as each of them look back on their past four years with plenty of great relationships and memories. "I loved everything about playing volleyball at the College of St. Benedict. It was/is a great experience and I have met so many amazing people and teammates throughout this journey," explained Rachel. "I have loved every second of my time here at CSB and on the volleyball team. Â Through the great times and through the rough times, I know I always have someone to talk to and who will support me through whatever happens. Â People truly care about you here," added Coleman.
Â
All of these seniors make it very clear how strong their relationships have become over the past four years and are thankful for the time they have been able to spend together.
"They are more than just teammates. They are my friends, my co-workers, and part of my support system, one of them is even my roommate," explained Gaydos. "We have become closer and closer over the past four years, not only on the court but also off the court. They have always been there for me no matter what, and I couldn't imagine my four years here without them. These friendships with my teammates will last a life time," added Rachel.
Â
"I can't believe that it is almost over!!" exclaimed Alm, "I definitely enjoyed my time here because our team as been really successful, I have improved as an athlete and as a person," she added. While looking back on how her four years would have been different without volleyball, Coleman says, "I wouldn't have had the experience of working with a team to achieve great success, and I feel as though volleyball has taught me a lot about myself and life in general."
Â
The Blazers will match up against Concordia on Saturday (Oct. 26) at 3 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall and will be coming into this game ranked No. 7 in the country. This will be the team's fourth consecutive MIAC matchup and will be looking for yet another win to bring their conference record up to 8-2 with one more conference match remaining in the season.
