Arden Hills, Minn. – After erasing a last minute deficit on Saturday, the Saint Benedict basketball team did it again tonight (Jan. 30), scoring a 67-57 win over Bethel for a second consecutive comeback win on the road.

Down 57-56 with 2:18 to go, the Blazers (15-4, 13-3 MIAC) closed the game on an 11-to-0 run to take the win. The Blazers trailed by as much as nine in the game, and had already overcome a seven-point deficit in the second half, only to see their own eight-point lead erased in the back-and-forth affair.

Trailing by one with the momentum on the side of the Royals (4-15, 3-13 MIAC), the Blazers got a huge three-pointer from Brianna Barrett to go up 59-57 with 2:05 to go, finally taking the lead for good. Ensuing back-to-back steals by Tish Alexander led to four more points, and within 45 seconds the Blazers went from down one, to up by six.

Barrett finished off Alexander's second steal, finishing with a career-high-tying 20 points on the night, leading the Blazers. Alexander added 11 points, along with a career high seven assists and five total steals.

They have now won seven consecutive games, the second longest streak in the conference, behind only Saint Mary's eight. The Blazers and Cardinals remained tied in second place in the conference standings, each a game behind league leading Concordia as all three teams won tonight.

The Blazers were playing catch-up for the entire first half and trailed all night until Barrett pulled the Blazers even at 38-38 six minutes into the second. She converted the old fashioned three-point play to tie the game, and on the following possession Whitney Canton hit a runner in the lane to put the Blazers up for the first time all game. The back-to-back baskets were part of a 15-to-0 Blazer run that erased a seven-point Royal lead.

Canton finished with 14 points on the night, extending her run of games in double-figures to seven. But, she also added 10 rebounds to chart her first career double-double, joining Morgan Dale as Blazers to accomplish the feat this season. Dale also had another stellar game on the boards, pulling down 11 rebounds.

The Blazers went up by as much as eight in the second and looked to be in good shape up 50-42 with 7:48 left. But as was the case last weekend, no lead was safe, and the Royals came back with a run of their own, tying the game at 50-50 just two minutes later.

They would then trade baskets until BU took their final lead with 2:18 to go, before the Blazers began their run to close.

Saint Benedict will look to make it eight straight on Saturday, as they head to St. Catherine for a 3 p.m. game on Feb. 2, wrapping up their three-game road trip.
