Eau Claire, Wis. – The Saint Benedict soccer team came back from a first half deficit to earn a 1-1 tie on the road today (Sept. 8), against host Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The Blugolds scored the opening goal in the game's 16th minute and held the 1-0 lead through the break. The Blazers were fortunate to get out of the first half down just a goal, as the Blugold attack put up 12 shots in the period, while holding the Blazers to just four.
UW-Eau Claire controlled the possession and took their lead before allowing even a shot to Saint Benedict. They had a series of shots and corner kicks just prior to their goal, before finally getting on board.
After 10 minutes ticked off in the second half, rookie Alyssa Hoffman evened the score with her first career goal. One of three shots on goal on the day for Hoffman, her and the Blazers were able to turn the tables in the second, and outshoot the Blugolds 9-to-5 in the half.
The goal came after a CSB corner, and was assisted by
Colleen Bouchard, who notches her second helper of the season.
The Blazers put it on the net five more times in the half, including a four-shot barrage over a two minute span with just over 20 minutes to play.
Each team then took four shots in the two overtimes as they played to the 1-1 tie.
The Blazers will return to action Sept. 9, looking to get back in the win column when the travel to UW-Stout for a 1 p.m. match-up.
