College of Saint Benedict Blazer student-athletes were honored at the 2011-12 Blazer Athletics Awards Program Sunday, May 6.

First-year soccer goalkeeper Megan Favorite (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) won the Blazer Rookie of the Year Award.  Favorite helped lead the Blazers to a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament.  She recorded three saves in a shootout against Macalester in the first round of the MIAC Playoffs and posted a shutout against Concordia.  She also had two stellar performances in the NCAA Tournament as the Blazers defeated Carroll and Loras.

Senior softball player Sierra Dooley (Spring Lake Park, MN, Spring Lake Park) was given the Sportsmanship Award.  She displayed character and exemplified her standard of maturity while playing in one particular game in 2012. After being called for an obstruction while playing first base, a base runner berated Dooley with some choice words.  After being bothered by the incident, Dooley apologized to the head coach and player for what happened.  Dooley's act of character greatly reflected Blazer athletics.

Senior soccer defender Sami Meyman (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley) was selected as CSB Blazer Athlete of the Year.  Meyman received her third All-MIAC team recognition and was named as an NCAA All-American.  Her intensity, enthusiasm and energy helped guide the Blazers to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament.  Meyman's efforts on defense contributed to posting shutouts in the MIAC Playoffs and holding #9 Loras to one goal in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  Head Coach Steve Kimble regards Meyman as "The fiercest defender in the MIAC."
