The Blazer tennis team snagged another win on Sunday morning at Gold's Gym in Sartell, Minn. against the University of Minnesota-Duluth. The match wrapped up with the final score being 6-3.

The Blazers took a 2-1 lead coming out of the doubles due to the wins and 1 and 2 doubles. Alicia Vargas (Coon Rapids, MN, Coon Rapids) and Taylor Reiner (Darwin, MN, Hutchinson) battled back and forth with their opponents, finally pulling ahead for a great end. Reiner had a chance to serve out the match at 7-5, but UMD battled back and won the game, getting the match back on serve. Vargas and Reiner responded with a break of their own to close out the match. Cheyenne Raforth (Rapid City, SD, St. Thomas More) and Ellie Black (Litchfield, MN, Litchfield) pulled ahead at 4-3 and never trailed again in their win at 2nd doubles.

In singles the Blazers earned the 3rd point with a straight set win from Ellie Black at 3 singles. Black went head to head, exchanging big groundstrokes with her opponent. Shortly after Black's victory, Vargas wrapped up the 4th point with a well-played 6-4, 6-2 win. at 1 singles. This was Vargas' first match at 1 singles and she outplayed a talented senior, setting up her points with her big serve and strong backhand. Marit Fraune (Apple Valley, MN, Eastview) picked up the match winner for the Blazers after an entertaining comeback. She dropped the first set and rallied quickly to a 4-1 lead in the second, only to see her opponent battle back and force a second set tie-break. Fraune pulled through using her consistency to set up the super breaker for the match. Again, Fraune built a lead only to see it disappear before finally capturing the final two points and a win for the Blazers.

The Blazers played this match with all of the first-year athletes, all of them proving that the Blazers future looks bright. The Blazers face the University of Minnesota Morris for the 2nd time at 4 p.m. on Tuesday April 17th on their home courts.
