The Blazers tennis team (2-2 overall, 1-0 MIAC) put up a good fight in sunny California on Saturday March 3rd. Taking on two teams in one day, the team faced strong competition in both opponents, Whittier College and California Lutheran. The Blazers came out with a 2-7 loss against Whittier College and tough 4-5 loss against California Lutheran.
Despite the final outcome against Whittier College, the Blazers played competitive games and sets throughout the match. Elissa Husby gathered a strong win for her team at six singles with strong set scores of 6-3, 6-3. Sarah Rossman and Alicia Vargas played a back and forth match two doubles, pulling through with a win of 8-6.
The Blazers also found tough competition in California Lutheran. Both teams proved to be of equal skill and the match was tied at 4-4, leaving the determining point to senior Megan Seipel at four singles. Playing a grueling three hour match, she ended up coming just a bit short. Fellow senior Alyson Brandell battled back with a perfect second set to force a deciding tie-break but lost 10-7, just losing the chance to clinch the match for the Blazers.
The Blazers look forward to their next match that will take place in Claremont, California versus Northwestern (IA) on Wednesday Mar. 8th at 10 A.M.
