The Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team kept their serves strong and their volleys quick for their second match of the season. On Sunday Feb. 26th, the Blazers traveled to the Lifetime Fitness in Bloomington to take on Macalester College. CSB (2-0, 1-0) defeated Macalester (4-5, 0-4) with a final match score of 7-2.
Senior Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River) finished a standout match with wins in both the 1 singles and 1 doubles positions. At 1 singles, Brandell defeated her opponent Kate Glenna with a final game scores of 6-3, 6-4. Joined by fellow senior Megan Seipel (New London, MN, New London-Spicer) at 1 doubles, the duo defeated their Macalester opponents with a final match score of 8-2. "The two came out quickly and established a strong tone for the match," spoke head coach Scott Larsen.
Seipel also had another win at her 4 singles position, giving the team their 3rd point overall. Losing only one game, she finished her match with a scores of 6-1, 6-0. Also with wins, their first in the MIAC, were first yearsAlicia Vargas (Coon Rapids, MN, Coon Rapids) and Elissa Husby (Duluth, MN, Marshall) giving the team their final points of the match.
The Blazers look towards their next match in sunny Whittier, California on Saturday Mar. 3.
