Last Time Out:
CSB: On Wednesday the Blazers won their home and conference-opener, using a second-half surge in which they shot 60% from the floor to send down the Hamline Pipers by a score of 87-72. The Blazers got to the line an astounding 48 times, converting 30 of those opportunities to keep the Pipers from crawling their way back into the game. Dale led the team with 17 points while Canton was not far off that pace with 15 of her own. Wollin earned her first double-double of the season, recording 10 rebounds and 10 points.
GAC: The Gusties played a near-mirror game at a different location Wednesday night, against the Augsburg Auggies. After a slow start, the Gusties went on a second-half surge of their own to defeat the Auggies 63-52. The Gusties shot an impressive 65.2% from the floor in the second half, while holding the Gusties to a pedestrian 30.2%. Rothenbuehler had a night to remember, leading her team with 23 points, nine rebounds, five blocks, and two steals.
The Storyline:
After easy wins against mediocre conference opponents, both teams will be looking to gain some momentum with a quality win against more formidable competition. The key for the Blazers will be defending 6-2 forward Rothenbuehler, while also staying home on the Gusties' sharp-shooting guards, Dysthe and Britta Rinke, who have shot approximately 50% from the field this season. On the other end of floor they will look to share the ball around and take advantage of the balanced scoring attack to expose the shallow Gustie bench. Only two reserves for Gustavus are averaging more than 15 minutes per game.
