River Falls, Wis. – The Saint Benedict basketball team had its best shooting night of the year, but it wasn't enough to overcome its mistakes in a 78-61 loss on the road to Wisconsin-River Falls tonight (Nov. 26).

The Falcons (3-1) went to the line 28 times – making 26 of them – and the Blazers (2-1) turned the ball over a season high 21 times. Fourteen of those turnovers came in the first half as the Blazers found themselves down 16 at the break, as well as 17-3 less than seven minutes in.

The Blazers actually outshot the Falcons on the night, making 43.1 percent (22-of-51) of their field goals to the Falcons 41.1 percent (23-of-56), but were outrebounded 43-to-23 and never led.

After Brianna Barrett opened the Blazer scoring to make it 2-2 early, the Falcons went on a 15-to-1 run to stretch the lead to 14 points. Barrett would go on to add 14 more points on the night, coming on 5-of-12 shooting, including a perfect 5-of-5 at the free throw line to lead the Blazers with 16.

The Falcons went up by as many as 17 in the half, taking a 46-29 lead in the final minute after a pair of Tess Lueders free throws. Lueders went on to score a career high 29 points in the game, leading all players.

In the second, UW-River Falls again answered a CSB bucket with a huge run, coming back for eight straight to run their lead to 22 after the Blazers' Mattie Lueck opened the second-half scoring, her only points of the game.

The Falcons led by 20 for nearly the entire rest of the way, with a pair of Hannah Hylla free throws finally bringing the difference back into the teens with a pair of free throws with under four minutes to go. Hylla finished with a career high 12 points on the night.

Saint Benedict will return to action on Wednesday, hosting Hamline in the home and MIAC opener.  The Blazers and Pipers tip-off at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 28.
