Mendota Heights, Minn. – The Saint Benedict hockey team dropped their second straight on Nov. 10, falling 6-2 on the road to St. Thomas.
A 1-1 tie after the first quickly turned into a 3-1 deficit at the second intermission, and a 6-1 Tommie advantage in the third before their scoring rally was eventually done.
St. Thomas (3-1-0, 2-0-0 MIAC) scored five straight through the second and into the third, after the Blazers tied the game up heading into the first break.
Christine Brodersen scored the equalizer at the 15:47 mark of the first for Saint Benedict (1-2-2, 0-2-0 MIAC) making full use of the 5-on-3 advantage.
Catherine Pollock assisted on the goal, as the Blazers came back after the Tommies went up 1-0 just over a minute into the game.
The tie was broken midway through the second, and less than two minutes later the Tommies were up 3-1, which is where the scoring would stay heading into the second intermission.
Coming out of the break, the Tommie goals again came in bunches, with three in less than a 10-minute span to put the game away and end eliminate any thought of a Blazer comeback.
The Blazers got one back before closing out the game, with
Ashley Olson finishing off a power play opportunity.
Alex Carlson notched an assist on the goal, while Pollock added her second helper of the game.
The Tommies – who were receiving votes in the latest national poll – closed out the series sweep with the win, following their 3-2 victory Thursday in St. Cloud, Minn. The Blazers return to the road and to MIAC play on Friday (Nov. 16) at Augsburg,
A day later (Nov. 17) they return home to host the Auggies and close the series, as the Blazers look for their first MIAC win.
