BOX SCORE
A very exciting game resulted in a frustrating loss for the Blazers (3-9-3 overall, 1-3-3 MIAC) tonight, as the Cobbers (9-2-2 overall, 5-1-2 MIAC) scored a last minute goal to win 3-2.
Unlike the last game, the Blazer defense held strong by keeping the Cobbers off the score board for the first and most of the second period. With about ten minutes remaining in the second, the Cobbers Breann Julius put their first points up and was followed eight minutes later by Katelyn Dold. This gave Concordia a 2-0 lead going into the third, creating a comeback situation for the Blazers once again.
The Blazers were quick to answer the two second period goals as first-year forward
Alli O'Brien scored just two minutes into the third on a power play opportunity. Senior
Amie Ernst scored the tying goal with nine minutes and 28 seconds left in the game, giving the Blazers new life and the hopes of upsetting the ninth ranked team.
Despite
Jenna Traut's unbelievable performance of 44 saves on the night, Cobber's player Breann Julius scored her second goal of the night with just over a minute left to play to give Concordia the lead and the victory.
The Blazers played extremely well against this highly ranked opponent, but unfortunately were not able to pull off a win. Hamline is the Blazer's next opponent on January 27. The team will take this game very seriously in order to hopefully get their first win in 8 games, and also gain some confidence going into the final part of their season.
