The College of Saint Benedict Blazer Soccer team (3-4 overall, 2-1 MIAC) used a very effective offensive strategy, as they defeated conference opponent Gustavus 2-0 Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minnesota.
The Blazer women's soccer team just came off a big conference win last Saturday against a nationally ranked Carleton team. This gave the Blazers the confidence they needed coming into today's game. The first half was a strong showing for the Blazers as they totaled eight shots. During the 39th minute, the Blazers received a corner from junior forward
Paige Olson (Plymouth, MN, West Lutheran). She placed it perfectly in front of the net, which led to a goal by senior
Heather Beshears (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
The second half was just as strong for the Blazers as they tallied 12 shots and only gave up one, which was saved by
Megan Favorite (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove). Shortly into the second half
Heather Beshears led sophomore midfielder
Laura Kosch (Eden Prairie, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) perfectly, who beat a Gustavus defender and scored the Blazers second and final goal of the game to make the score 2-0. Beshear's and Kosch's goals were their first of the season, and Megan favorite added another four saves to her total, giving her the second shutout of her career.
The Blazers return to action next Wednesday, September 28 at home against conference opponent Augsburg at 4 pm.
