The College of Saint Benedict Blazer volleyball team (8-5 overall, 1-0 MIAC) defeated the University of Minnesota-Morris 3-1 this afternoon to take the Blazer Invitational.
Saint Benedict hit the court running today and took an early lead over the Cougars 1-0 with a 25-20 win. The Blazers had 14 kills and a .213 kill percentage in the first set. The Cougars fought back in the second set and earned 16 kills with a .636 kill percentage to beat the Blazers 25-16. CSB notched 11 kills and a .231 kill percentage. The Blazers took the third set 25-14 with 10 kills and compiled a kill percentage of .214. CSB needed one more set to secure the championship and they did just that. Saint Benedict came out hard and won a tough fought match 25-23. They compiled 17 kills with a .310 kill percentage.

Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forest Lake) earned a double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs. Leading the Blazers in set assists was first-year setter
Taya Kockelman (Minneota, MN, Minneota) with 28. First-year outside hitter
Alexa Rinde (Minnetonka, MN, Orono) produced 16 kills and a .308 kill percentage in today's match. First-year defensive specialist
Victoria Nass (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) compiled 16 digs on the day.
The Blazers return to action on Wednesday, September 21st, against MIAC rival Hamline University in St. Paul, MN at 7 pm.
