Strong Attack From Blazer Soccer defeates Carleton 1-0

Results

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer Soccer team (2-4 overall, 1-1 MIAC) used a very potent offensive attack on September 17th to defeat nationally ranked Carleton College (3-3 overall, 1-1 MIAC)    1-0.

The Blazers started out the game against nationally ranked Carleton College with a 4-2-4 offensive strategy, so the Blazers could get more shots and hopefully produce a very much needed goal. Steve Kimble's strategy for the game worked out tremendously as the Blazers recorded 10 shots on goal in the first half.

Shortly into the 21st minute sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Lauer (Plymouth, MN, Wayzata)chipped one into the back corner of the net from around 18 yards out giving the Blazers a needed momentum boost. The Knights from Carleton only recorded two shots in the first period.

The second half started out just as strong for the Blazers as they accumulated around seven shots but only 2 were on goal. Sophomore Forward Kristina Burk (Westminster, CO, Holy Family)laced one past Knight's goalkeeper Beth Ashinky from 25 yards out, but as the ball was on the goal line, Carleton's defensive Layne Teska slid into the net and cleared the ball out, stopping Burk from her first goal of the season.

The Blazer's rode their momentum the rest of the second half, coming away with a 1-0 win against conference opponent Carleton. Megan Favorite (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove)added six saves for the Blazers, recording her first shut out win of her college career.

The Blazers travel to Saint Peter, Minnesota next Saturday for another conference match-up against Gustavus Adolphus College at 1 pm.
