BOX SCORE
The College of Saint Benedict (3-4-2 overall, 1-2-2 MIAC) hosted St. Catherine University (4-1-2 overall, 2-1-2 MIAC) in a competitive match up. The two teams went back and forth all night and finished the game in a 3-3 tie.
Despite a great offensive first period by St. Ben's with 9 shots on goal, it was scoreless going into the second. Sophomore defender
Rachel Welz scored the first goal of the night seven and a half minutes into the second period giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead. Immediately following a St. Kate's goal,
Christine Brodersen scored her first of two goals to put the Blazers up 2-1, taking the excitement away from the Wildcats just as they were starting to build momentum.
St. Kate's scored less than a minute into the third period to tie the game, but once again Brodersen pulled the energy back towards the Blazer's bench with her second goal of the night. It was the third lead change of the game. Unfortunately, Kasey Evans scored her second goal later in the third to tie the game 3 goals apiece.
After several Blazer scoring opportunities in overtime, the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
The score reflects what a competitive game it was.
Although the outcome was not ideal for the Blazers, they will head into St. Paul hungry for a win. The game is at 3 p.m. on December 3.
