Tough Loss in Home Opener

Box Score

Saint Benedict (1-2 overall 0-0 MIAC) hosted an NCAA Division I school, the Lindenwood Lions (1-10 overall), last night (November 5) and were defeated 7-1. Despite the large deficit, the Blazers hung tough with the Lions for most of the game until things began to fall apart in the third period.

After ending the first period scoreless, senior forward Brenna Gould came out right away and scored about four minutes into the period to put the Blazers up 1-0. Unfortunately the Lions were quick to strike back with two goals of their own from Kendra Broad and Jordyn Constance. The Blazers would hold the Lions to their two scores for a while until about five minutes into the third where the Lions began a scoring frenzy. They would go on to score five goals in the next 13 minutes to finalize the night's outcome at 7-1.

Penalties hurt Saint Benedict in the end as they committed a total of ten offenses resulting in 20 minutes of playing short-handed. This made it difficult to keep the puck out their own zone and help create more scoring opportunities for the Lions. They also ended the night with only 17shots on goal compared to Lindenwood's 41.

With an emphasis on committing less penalties and creating more scoring opportunities, the Blazers will try to split this weekend's games with a win ths afternoon (November 5) at 2pm against the Finlandia LIons (0-1-1).
