The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team beat Minnesota State University-Moorhead 155-145 on Saturday afternoon in Collegeville, Minn.
With the win, the Blazers were able to get back at the Dragons who handed them a 20 point loss to start their season last year. CSB had a ton of athletes who competed well, Sophomore
Lauren Kessler (Plymouth, MN, Maple Grove) dominated in the 1000 and 500 freestyle, beating her opponent who beat her last year. First-Year
Morgan Peterson (Rogers, AR, St. Pius X) also won in the 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle, and 200 IM. Sophomore
Kristen Beste (Freeport, MN, Melrose) swam well winning the 50 freestyle and coming in second in the 100 freestyle. First-Year
Brita Skalbeck (Eden Prairie, MN, Hopkins) made an excellent debut as she won the 100 backstroke. First-Year diver
Alissa Lager (St. Peter, MN, St. Peter) stepped up big for the Blazers and won the diving competition, Some of the competitors she beat were national qualifiers from Moorhead.
Minnesota State University-Moorhead is a division II team who has had about a month more training than the Blazers. After the meet head coach Kathy Walker said "It really is a great way to start our season. The win was a solid team effort, and it showed us that we have a lot to look forward to this season."
Next up for CSB is the Hamline Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. on Nov. 5, at 1 pm.
