The College of Saint Benedict Blazer volleyball team (14-6 overall, 6-1 MIAC) defeated conference opponent St. Catherine (13-9 overall, 2-5 MIAC) 3-0 Tuesday night in St. Paul, Minn.
Saint Benedict compiled 18 kills and a .432 kill percentage in the first set as they defeated the Wildcats 25-17. The Blazers took the next set 27-25 in a hard earned match. CSB notched 20 kills in the second set and earned a .276 kill percentage. Saint Benedict took the match with a tough 29-27 third set win. The Blazers netted 19 kills and had a .304 kill percentage.
Leading the Blazers on the attack was sophomore outside hitter
Lexi Alm (Stacy, MN, Forest Lake). Alm earned a double-double in tonight's match notching 15 kills and 13 digs along with a .361 kill percentage. First-year setter
Taya Kockelman (Minneota, MN, Minneota) produced 45 set assists and a 16 digs. Senior outside hitter
Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forest Lake) had 12 kills and a .344 kill percentage as sophomore libero
Chelsea Rachel (Maple Lake, MN, Maple Lake) earned 12 digs.
The Blazers return to action as they start tournament play at the Midwest Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Friday against Calvin College at 3 pm. Saint Benedict plays Albion College at 5 pm Friday night.
