Blazers Fall to Tough Tommies

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (5-5 overall, 2-2 MIAC) fell to the University of St. Thomas (5-4 overall, 2-2 MIAC) 1-0 Wednesday afternoon in St. Joseph, MN.

The Tommies scored the lone goal of the game at the 17 minute mark of the first half.  The goal occurred off of a St. Thomas corner kick.  Blazers senior goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer (Rochester, MN, John Marshall) made the first save, but the Tommie's Jenna Savino put in the rebound.  The game remained scoreless from there on out.

The Blazers outshot the Tommies 17-12.  St. Thomas junior goalkeeper Allie Byron compiled six saves on the day.  Maija Schmelzer made six for the Blazers.

Saint Benedict heads to Northfield, MN to play MIAC opponent Carleton College (5-2 overall, 3-1 MIAC), Saturday, October 2nd, at 11 am.
