The College of Saint Benedcit Blazer soccer team (5-4 overall, 2-1 MIAC) defeated conference opponent Gustavus Adolphus College (4-4 overall, 0-3 MIAC) 2-0 Saturday afternoon in St. Jospeh, MN.

The Blazers first goal came two minutes and 43 seconds into the game after junior forward Heather Beshears (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) took a shot that bounced off the crossbar.  Sophomore forward Jess Pellegrene (Maple Grove, MN, Totino-Grace) controlled the rebound and buried the ball in the back of the net.  Six minutes later, the Blazers increased their lead to two on a goal from Beshears.  First-year forward Colleen Bouchard (Cedar Rapids, IA, Xavier) got the assist.  The game remained scoreless from that point on.

Senior goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer (Rochester, MN, John Marshall) earned her fourth shut out of the season stopping all four of the Gusties shots on goal.  Gustavus goaltender Chelsea Bayer made seven saves for the Gusties.

The Blazers host MIAC opponent St. Thomas University (4-3 overall, 1-1 MIAC) on Wednesday, September 29th, at 4 pm in St. Joseph, MN.
