Blazers Fall to St. Olaf in Two Overtimes

Senior Goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer
Box Score

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (4-3 overall, 1-1 MIAC) fell to conference rival St. Olaf College (5-1 overall, 2-0 MIAC) 1-0 in two overtimes Saturday afternoon in St. Joseph, MN.

The game remained scoreless until the 102nd minute when St. Olaf midfielder Christina Herron-Sweet passed the ball through the Blazer defense to forward Ellie Steiner.  Steiner took a shot from the left side of the box that just got past Blazers senior goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer (Rochester, MN, John Marshall), and redirected off the far post into the net.

Saint Benedict was outshot 29-16.  Schmelzer was nearly perfect in net for the Blazers with 15 saves, most of which were from point blank range.

The Blazers travel to Eau Claire, Wisconsin on Sunday, September 19th, to play non-conference opponent University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (2-2 overall, 0-0 WIAC) at 1 pm.
