BOX SCORE
Despite strong play from the College of Saint Benedict (3-17-4, 1-12-4, MIAC), the Blazers were unable to overcome a slow start and penalties in losing tonight 3-1 to the University of Saint Catherine.
The Blazers were able to control the puck well, remaining in the offensive zone for much of the game, but struggled all night to get pucks to the net on the Wildcats goalie Mel Gerten.
Saint Catherine led the back and forth game in the beginning scoring a power play and short handed goal before the Blazers responded with a shorthanded goal of their own when sophomore forward
Kerri Graske (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater Area) shelved a wrap around shot. Sophomore forward
Amie Ernst (North Mankato, MN, Mankato Loyola) assisted on the play.
To beat Saint Catherine you have to find ways to open up space in the offensive zone in front of the net and we really struggled to do that all night,” said head coach Pat Michaud. “We spent time in the offensive zone but struggled to get goals to the net. One power play goal was the difference tonight.”
Saint Benedict wraps up the season tomorrow afternoon when they finish their series with Saint Catherine. The puck drops at the MAC in Saint Cloud at 2 pm.
