The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (15-7 overall, 4-1 MIAC) defeated Carleton 3-0 this evening in Claire Lynch Hall.
The Knights began the first set with a 10-4 lead over the Blazers. CSB was able to close the gap at 14-16 and kept on fighting, eventually tying the score at 20. The Blazers then capitalized on a 4-1 run to win the set 25-21.
The second set was close from the start with the score tied at six before Saint Benedict pulled ahead 12-7. The Blazers maintained that comfortable lead, winning 25-20.
The final set began much like the first, with a 12-7 Carleton lead. CSB fought back, tying the score at 14 a piece. The Blazers, however, were not able to grasp the lead as the Knights kept fighting to maintain their lead. The Blazers found themselves later at a 20-20 score, at which point they took the lead 21-20. Then the score was again tied at 21. The teams exchanged point for point until they found themselves at a 28-28 score. CSB took control, moving ahead to win 30-28.
The Blazers were led by junior outside hitter
Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forrest Lake), who totaled 16 kills and a .448 hitting percentage. First-year outside hitter
Lexi Alm (Stacy, MN, Forest Lake) added 13 kills and 10 digs for CSB. First-year setter
Kathyrn Gaydos (Savage, MN, Prior Lake) compiled 48 set assists. The Knights were led by Kelly Lovett who had 12 kills.
Senior right side hitter
Kayli Schumacher (East Grand Forks, MN, Sacred Heart) recorded her 1000th kill of her career at CSB.
The Blazers next host St. Mary's on Fri., Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.
