The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (5-6 overall, 2-3 MIAC) fell 2-1 to conference opponent Carleton College(7-2 overall, 5-1 MIAC) in double overtime Saturday afternoon in Northfield, MN.

The Blazers starting the scoring with a goal by first-year forward Colleen Bouchard (Cedar Rapids, IA, Xavier) less than five minutes into the game.  Saint Benedict kept the Knights scoreless the first half, but were not able to keep the shut out going.  Carleton's Leigh-Anne Borkowski put the Knights on the scoreboard six minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal.  The game remained deadlocked for the remainder of the game and the first overtime.  Two minutes into the second overtime, Carleton's Liz Arakaki scored for the Knights with the assist going to Sarah Hagerty.

Carleton outshot Saint Benedict 17-15.  Senior goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer (Rochester, MN, John Marshall) made 11 saves for the Blazers.

On Saturday, October 9th, Saint Benedict heads to St. Paul, MN to face MIAC opponent Hamline University (3-7 overall, 0-5 MIAC) at 1 pm.
