Blazers Defeat Falcons 2-1

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (10-6 overall, 6-3 MIAC) defeated non-conference opponent UW-River Falls (10-7 overall, 4-3 WIAC) 2-1 in River Falls, WI.

Less than twelve minutes into the game junior midfield Eryn Lansverk put the Falcons up by one.  At the end of the first half Saint Benedict was down by a goal, despite outshooting River Falls 6-5.  Eight minutes into the second half junior forward Heather Beshears (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) tied the game at one.  Beshears headed the ball into the back of the net on a pass from sophomore defender Jenny Brattensborg (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie).  Twenty minutes later the Blazers gained the lead with a goal from sophomore defender Missy Shelendich (Shoreview, MN, Mounds View)on a free kick. 

Making her collegiate debut was first-year goalkeeper Jenna Glass (North St. Paul, MN, Hill Murray).  Glass made five saves in net for the Blazers, earning her first win of her career.  Falcon's goalkeeper Rachel Thompson made nine saves for River Falls.  

Saint Benedict travels to St. Paul, MN to play MIAC opponent Macalester College (10-5 overall, 5-3 MIAC) at 7:30 pm.
