The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (16-8 overall, 5-2 MIAC) flooded Claire Lynch Hall with pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, while cruising past the Wildcats of St. Catherine 3-0 this evening.

The first match started out close as both teams exchanged point for point until they found themselves with the score tied at 10.  At this point, the Blazers strung together 9-1 and 6-4 runs to win 25-15.

The Blazers kept their momentum in the second set, jumping off to a 5-1 lead.  CSB maintained its distance, keeping the score at 10-5.  A few point later, with the Blazers ahead 15-10, the Wildcats attempted to battle back, bringing the score within three at 17-14.  CSB wouldn't back down, pushing forward off of an 8-4 run and winning 25-18.

The final set was close again with an 8-8 tie.  St. Catherine controlled the pace of the next portion of the match, picking up a 16-10 lead.  The Blazers kept the heat on, stringing together a 10-5 run to bring the score within a point at 21-20.  The Wildcats managed to pull off a 3-2 run in response, setting up for set point at 24-22.  CSB kept on fighting, tying the score at 24.  The teams exchanged points as the score remained tied at 28.  The Blazers picked up the next two points off of two kills by first-year outside hitter Lexi Alm (Stacy, MN, Forest Lake), winning the nail-biter 30-28.

Alm led the Blazers with 13 total kills and a .440 hitting percentage.  Junior outside hitter Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forrest Lake) also had 12 kills and senior right-side hitter Kayli Schumacher (East Grand Forks, MN, Sacred Heart) added 11 kills.  First-year libero Chelsea Rachel (Maple Lake, MN, Maple Lake) totaled 10 digs, while senior middle blocker Calleigh Brown (Buffalo, MN, Buffalo) compiled six blocks.

The Blazers are on the road for the next two matches, traveling to Gustavus on Wed., Oct. 20 and St. Olaf on Fri., Oct. 22.  CSB is next at home on Wed., Oct. 27 against St. Thomas.  All matches are at 7 p.m.
