The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (7-6 overall, 4-3 MIAC) defeated MIAC opponent St. Catherine (6-7-1 overall, 2-5 MIAC) 2-0 Tuesday afternoon in St. Joseph, MN.

First-year forward Colleen Bouchard (Cedar Rapids, IA, Xavier) put the Blazers up early on a through ball from juniormidfielder Olivia Wee (Savage, MN, Juan Diego).  The goal came less than 13 minutes into the first half.  The Blazers next goal came fifteen minutes into the second half when junior forward Heather Beshears (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) connected on a pass from Bouchard to put the Blazers up by two goals.  

Senior goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer (Rochester, MN, John Marshall) earned her seventh shutout of the season making four saves.  Saint Benedict outshot the Wildcats 21-7.  St. Catherine junior goalkeeper Chelsea Jones-Thomas made nine saves.

The Blazers host conference opponent Bethel University (5-5-2 overall, 2-3-1 MIAC) on Saturday, October 12th, at 3:30 pm in St. Joseph, MN.
