The College of Saint Benedict (2-12-3, 0-7-3 MIAC) lost a one goal margin to Concordia University 2-1 this afternoon in Moorhead, Minnesota. The Blazers, playing a day after rebounding for a 4-4 tie against the Cobbers, narrowly missed out on capturing their first MIAC win in front of a crowd of 203.
A scoreless first period for both sides during which Saint Benedict got off eight shots was followed by an aggressive second with each team finding the back of the net once. Down 1-0, sophomore forward
Kerri Graske (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater Area) evened the game with her goal 6:05 into the period. The goal, assisted by sophomore center
Jennifer Yelle (Coon Rapids, MN, Coon Rapids), was Graske's third on the season. Yelle lead all Blazers during the game with five shots recorded on net.
With the game tied and all signs pointing to another overtime period, the Cobber's were able to net the game winning score when they snuck one by sophomore goalie
Lauren Herzog (Mendota Heights, MN, Convent of the Visitation). Herzog, who started her fourth straight game for the Blazers, finished with 39 saves on the night.
Saint Benedict is on the road again next weekend as they take on Hamline University February 5th at 7:15 pm.
