The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (2-2 overall, 0-0 MIAC) fell to Puget Sound University (2-1 overall), bringing their tournament record to 1-2 after a 3-1 loss to the Loggers.
The Blazers jumped to a quick 3-0 lead, maintaining a lead until the Loggers tied the score at 12. PSU edged the Blazers 14-13 and continued to extend their margin until pushing past CSB to win 25-19.
The second set began with five ties and four lead changes until the Loggers reach a score of 10-7 over the Blazers. PSU managed to push ahead to a 20-13 lead, but CSB kept their perseverance. The Blazers began a 7-0 run, bringing the score within one point. Both teams exchanged points until the Blazers edged the Loggers 29-27, tying the match score at one a piece.
The Blazers couldn't keep their momentum, falling behind 10-3. Although they managed to bring the gap within two at one point during the set, but couldn't catch the Loggers, ending in a 25-21 loss.
Both teams changed leads seven times throughout the fourth set, resulting in fourteen tied scores, but PSU pulled ahead in the end, winning 25-23.
The Blazers were led by junior middle blocker Calleigh Brown (Buffalo, MN, Buffalo), who had 15 kills. Senior outside hitter Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing) added 13 kills and 14 digs. Senior setter Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) had 28 set assists and 15 digs, while senior libero Andrea Millerbernd (Littlefork, MN, Littlefork-Big Falls) led the team with 22 digs.
CSB plays Simpson in the consolation match against Simpson this afternoon at 4 p.m.
