The #10-ranked College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (2-1 overall, 0-0 MIAC) defeated #25-ranked Simpson College (0-2) 3-0 in their second match of the Puget Sound Invite this evening.
The Blazers kicked off the first set with an 11-3 lead, dominating the rest of the set and continually extending that margin until they won 25-12.
The second set stated off with both teams exchanging points until the score was tied at 6, at which point the Storm pulled ahead to an 8-12 lead over the Blazers. However, CSB battled back and tied the game at 19 then pulled ahead of Simpson, winning 25-22.
They kept their momentum throughout the third set, eventually picking up a 21-16 lead. With the score at 24-19, the Storm began to creep back, bring the score within one at 24-23, but a Simpson service error gave CSB the edge and the win 25-23.
With an overall team attack percentage of .260, the Blazers were led by senior outside hitter
Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing), who contributed nine kills. Sophomore outside hitter
Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forrest Lake) also had seven kills. Senior setter
Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) had 23 set assists and senior libero
Andrea Millerbernd (Littlefork, MN, Littlefork-Big Falls) led with 13 digs.
