CSB Upended by St. Thomas, 0-2

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (2-2 MIAC, 4-4-1 overall) fell to the University of St. Thomas (5-0 MIAC, 8-2 overall) 0-2 on Wednesday evening in St. Paul, MN.

The conference rivals were deadlocked at a 0-0 tie until St. Thomas' Erin Sprangers scored at the 34th minute for the first goal of the game.  The Blazers were able to hold them off for the rest of the half and for most of the second period, until Kirsten Moran, who assisted Sprangers earlier in the game, recorded a header for the second goal of the game.

The Blazers were stifled by the Tommie defense, being outshot 8-18.  Saint Benedict was also at a disadvantage in corner kicks, collecting nine compared to St. Thomas' 13.

Junior goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer notched 10 saves in the loss for CSB.  Senior forward Alison Tourville led the team in shots-on-goal with three.

The Blazers return home to face Carleton on Saturday, October 3rd at 1 pm in St. Joseph, MN.
