The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (1-1 MIAC, 3-3-1 overall) were unable to capitalize on their opportunities in a 0-1 loss to Simpson College (0-0 IIAC, 4-4 overall) on Wednesday afternoon in St. Joseph, MN.
The Blazers controlled most of the game by outshooting the Storm 11-3 and collecting nine corner kicks in the second half. But persistent play by Simpson's defense and first-year goalkeeper Megan Petersen, who tallied eight saves, kept Saint Benedict off of the scoreboard.
After a scoreless first half, the Storm scored the lone goal of the game off of a foul shot kick by sophomore midfielder Nicole Dillenburg at the 57th minute. CSB put pressure on Simpson during the rest of the half, but could not string together a goal to tie the game.
First-year
Missy Shelendich (Shoreview, MN, Mounds View) had three shots on goal to lead the Blazers. Senior goalkeeper
Shannon Strohm (Burnsville, MN, Apple Valley) notched one save in the loss.
Next up, Saint Benedict hits the road against Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, September 26th in St. Peter, MN at 1 pm.
