The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (1-1-0 MIAC, 3-2-1 overall) was frustrated by St. Olaf College (2-0-0 MIAC, 5-1-0 overall) in a 0-5 loss on Saturday afternoon in Northfield, MN.
The Blazers held the Oles to one goal after the first half thanks to five saves by junior goalkeeper
Maija Schmelzer (Rochester, MN, John Marshall), but St. Olaf scored three of their four second half goals within six minutes that put the game away.
Saint Benedict struggled offensively, being outshot 3-23 without any shots on goal. The Blazers were able to set up for four corner kicks while the Oles had none, though, but were unable to shake up the game in their favor.
Schmelzer finished with eight saves for the Blazers. Sophomore forward Lindsay Howard collected a hat trick and an assist for St. Olaf, with all of her goals coming in the second half.
Saint Benedict returns home for non-conference action against Simpson on Wednesday, September 23 at 5 pm in St. Joseph, MN.
