The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (6-4 overall, 1-0 MIAC) cruised past Hamline 3-0 tonight in St. Paul.
The Blazers started the first set with a 14-7 lead over the Pipers, progressively extending their lead to 20-11. Hamline attempted to close the gap, but CSB prevailed, winning 25-20.
The second set began with four service aces in seven serves by junior setter
Amber Wortz (Fairfax, MN, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop), bringing the Blazers ahead 7-0. CSB dominated the remainder of the set, eventually winning 25-9 and tallying seven of the team's 13 service aces.
Hamline hung close to CSB in the third set, keeping the score within two at 10-8. The score was tied at 18 before the Blazers pulled ahead, winning 25-20 for their first MIAC win of the season.

Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forrest Lake), junior middle hitter
Calleigh Brown (Buffalo, MN, Buffalo), junior right side hitter
Kayli Schumacher (East Grand Forks, MN, Sacred Heart), and senior outside hitter
Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing). Wortz totalled 23 assists for CSB. As a team, the Blazers had a total of 13 service aces, nine blocks and an overall .271 hitting percentage.
The Blazers host seven teams in the annual Holiday Inn-Vitational this weekend. CSB first faces Presentation at 5 p.m. on Fri., Sept. 18. Keep checking the Blazer website for updates.
