Blazers Gain Revenge on Auggies, 2-0

Senior forward Alison Tourville (Plymouth, MN, Robbinsdale Armstrong) scored a goal and earned an assist and sophomore midfielder Heather Beshears (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) added a goal as the College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team defeated Augsburg College for the first time in the regular season in six years, 2-0 in St. Joseph, MN on Tuesday afternoon.

The last time the Blazers beat the Auggies in regular season play was October 14, 2003.  But Saint Benedict got the best of Augsburg on this day by taking advantage of the opportunities given to them.

The first period was evenly played, as the Auggies outshot the Blazers 6-4. But CSB came out to a fast start at the beginning of the second period and eventually scored the first goal of the game at the 59th minute by Tourville on an unassisted shot from the left side of the field that sailed into the upper right corner of the net.

Six minutes later Saint Benedict struck again as Beshears recorded a header into the goal off of a corner kick by Tourville. Augsburg was able to put some pressure on CSB late in the game but the five saves tallied by senior goalkeeper Shannon Strohm (Burnsville, MN, Apple Valley) sealed the first conference win of the season for the Blazers.

The Blazers travel to St. Olaf to face the Oles for their next contest on Saturday, September 19th at 1 pm.
