The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (5-3 overall, 1-0 MIAC) defeated Macalester 3-0 for the team's third win of the Augsburg Tournament this morning.
The Blazers started off strong with a 10-6 lead over the Scots in the first set. They kept the pressure on, lengthening their lead to 16-10 and a final score of 25-16.
The second set started off much the same with another 10-6 CSB lead. However, Macalester closed the gap, tying the score at 14. The Blazers didn't back down, catching a 20-16 lead and winning 25-20.
The Scots grabbed an early 5-6 jump over the Blazers. Despite three tie scores, CSB didn't pull ahead until a 13-12 score. The lead remained in their hands as they won the final set 25-15.
Junior middle hitter
Calleigh Brown (Buffalo, MN, Buffalo) had another top-notch game, leading the Blazers with ten kills and three blocks. Junior right side hitter
Kayli Schumacher (East Grand Forks, MN, Sacred Heart) also contributed seven kills and three blocks. Senior setter
Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) had 34 assists for CSB.
The Blazers will face #7-ranked University of St. Thomas (7-0) in the Championship match of the tournament today at 3 p.m.
