Blazer Volleyball Dominates Northwestern

The College of Saint Benedict (3-3 overall, 0-0 MIAC) and Northwestern College volleyball teams met tonight for the second time this season, ending the match with the same outcome but by a very different route as the Blazers defeated the Eagles 3-0 in CSB's first match of the Augsburg Tournament.

In both team's first match of the season, Northwestern forced CSB into four sets before the Blazers pulled off the win.  Tonight, the Blazers controlled the first set from the beginning, jumping to a quick 11-4 lead.  With the score soon at 14-6, CSB began a 5-0 run to extend their margin to 19-6, eventually winning the set 25-9.

The second set began much slower as each team exchanged point until the Blazers led 10-9.  At which point, CSB lengthened their lead to 16-14 and finished with a 9-0 run to win 25-14.

CSB dominated the third match from the start, easing into a 12-2 lead before winning 25-16.

The Blazers finished the night with .253 hitting percentage and eight team blocks.  Junior middle hitter Calleigh Brown (Buffalo, MN, Buffalo) led CSB with nine kills and three blocks.  Senior outside hitter Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing) also had seven kills for the Blazers.

Up next, CSB takes on UW-Eau Claire tonight at 8 p.m. in their second match of the Augsburg Tournament.
