Blazers Finish Series with Tie

The College of Saint Benedict (1-4-2, 0-2-2 MIAC) led for 44 minutes of play during their night match against Augsburg College before allowing the Auggies to get back in the game with three consecutive goals scored during three minutes of play. The two teams went on to eventually tie 3-3 in overtime at the MAC in Saint Cloud.

Despite boasting a very young team, the Blazers have 20 underclassmen, Saint Benedict showed flashes of potential and what is to come as the season progresses. The team dominated statistical categories on the ice winning the faceoff ratio 30-17 while out shooting Augsburg 38-32.

First-year defender Sarah Williams (Huntington Beach, CA, Mater Dei High School) got the Blazers on the scoreboard first when she scored her first goal in college at 03:55 in the first. Williams was assisted by sophomore center Jennifer Yelle (Coon Rapids, MN, Coon Rapids) and sophomore forward Andrea Parsons (Buffalo, MN, Buffalo). Late in the second period Parsons struck again when she scored her first goal of the season assisted by sophomore forwards Amie Ernst (North Mankato, MN, Mankato Loyola) and Katelyn Bounds (Anchorage, AK, Bartlett).

The Auggies were then able to score three quick goals on sophomore goalie Abbie Helminen (Brighton, MI, Brighton (Belle Tire)). Helminen mad several key saves during the game for the Blazers, finishing with 29 saves.

Down 2-3 in the middle of the third, sophomore defender Rachel Welz (Oconomowoc, WI, Oconomowoc) evened the score off a pass by Yelle at 06:40. The goal was Welz's second of the season.

Entering overtime for the second straight day, neither team was able to find the back of the net and the game ended in a tie 3-3.

The Blazers are back in action next weekend when they take on Bethel University December 11 and 12.
