Blazers Suffer First Loss of Season to UW-Stout

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (2-1 overall) suffers its first loss to UW-Stout 85-76 in the championship game of the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Tournament.

Stout began the game with an 8-3 lead over CSB before the Blazers tied the score at eight.  The Blue Devils, however, kept the lead, inching ahead of CSB by seven points at one point during the half before the Blazers tied the score at 24.  Here, Saint Benedict jumped onto an 8-0 run, leading 32-24 and heading into the locker room with a 40-36 lead.

Despite three tied score before the 13-minute mark, the Blazers kept the lead, pulling ahead by seven points during the half.  The Blue Devils turned the tables with five minutes remaining in the half, pulling ahead 66-64.  Stout continued to inch ahead of the Blazers, finding a 12-point lead before settling into a 85-76 win over CSB.

The Blazers were led by junior post Heather Gillund (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine), who scored 17 points after going 9-for-11 from the freethrow line.  Gillund also grabbed nine rebounds.  Junior wing Joelle Waytashek (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) also added 10 points.

CSB kicks off MIAC play on Wed., Dec.2 at Bethel University at 7:30 p.m.
