The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (18-4 overall, 4-0 MIAC) cruised past Carleton College 3-0 tonight to remain undefeated in MIAC play.
The first set started close as the Knights took an early 6-3 lead before the Blazers tied the score at 10. Both teams exchanged point for the majority of the set, leading up to another tie score at 20. CSB then took control, outscoring Carleton 4-1 to win the set 25-21.
The second set began much like the first, with another score tied at 10. The Blazers began to pull ahead, capitalizing on a 12-3 run before winning 25-17.
Carleton led for the beginning of the final set, obtaining a 12-10 lead over CSB. The Blazers, however, tied the score at 16, 17, 18 and 19, eventually pulling ahead and and winning 25-22.
The Blazers were led by junior right side hitter
Kayli Schumacher (East Grand Forks, MN, Sacred Heart), who had 11 kills and a .348 hitting percentage. Junior middle hitter
Calleigh Brown (Buffalo, MN, Buffalo) added 10 kills with a .471 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter
Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing) had nine kills and 11 digs for CSB, while senior setter
Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) led with 34 assists.
Up next CSB travels to Winona, Minn., to take on St. Mary's University tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
