Kelly Suter's (Plymouth, MN, Totino-Grace) goal with 27 second remaining in double overtime secured a third straight win for the College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (4-3-0 MIAC, 7-5-1 overall) over the University of Wisconsin-Stout (2-4 WIAC, 3-11 overall) on Thursday afternoon in St. Joseph, MN.
The Blazers were able to hold off a consistent offensive attack by the Blue Devils, large in part to the 12 saves made by senior goalkeeper
Shannon Strohm (Burnsville, MN, Apple Valley). CSB was unable to capitalize on its opportunities for most of the game too, as they had 11 more corner kicks than Wisconsin-Stout (14-5).
Saint Benedict was able to have the last word during the contest, though, as senior forward
Alison Tourville (Plymouth, MN, Robbinsdale Armstrong) recorded her fifth assist of the season by hooking up with Suter for the game winning goal.
This was Suter's second goal of the 2009 campaign. Coincidentally, her first goal of the year was also a game winning score in double overtime, against Minnesota-Morris September 8th.
The Blazers next travel to St. Paul, MN to face Bethel on Saturday, October 17th at 1 pm.
