Blazers Hold On for 1-0 Win

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (3-3-0 MIAC, 5-5-1 overall) survived the cold and outlasted Hamline University (0-5-1 MIAC, 3-8-1 overall) for a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon in St. Joseph, MN.

The weather conditions proved to be challenging factors for the conference game, but CSB was able to capitalize early in the game with sophomore midfielder Heather Heather Beshears' (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) goal, her fourth of the season, at the 14th minute.  Sophomore defender Sami Meyman (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley) notched her second assist of the year on the play.

The Blazers were able to control the pace for most of the contest until the Pipers were able to put on a charge in the final ten minutes.  Their rally was unsuccessful, though, as senior goalkeeper Shannon Strohm (Burnsville, MN, Apple Valley) made five second half saves to preserve the victory for Saint Benedict.

CSB was able to outshoot Hamline 18-8, and had a nine shot advantage on corner kicks.

The Blazers continue MIAC play against St. Katherine on Tuesday, October 13th at 4 pm in St. Paul, MN.
