The College of Saint Benedict (4-4-0 overall, 2-4-0 MIAC) skated to their first win of the New Year, a 1-0 decision over Robert Morris College today in Chicago, Illinois. Playing in the windy city, the Blazers out shot Robert Morris 35-15 while controlling the game in all areas on the ice and bolstering their away record to an impressive 4-1.
First-year defender Katelyn Bounds (Anchorage, AK, Bartlett) was the difference maker, scoring her first collegiate goal 14:50 in the second period on a hard wrist shot that was assisted from first-year forward Kerri Graske (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater Area). Playing in the net sophomore goalie Abbie Helminen (Brighton, MI, Brighton (Belle Tire)) collected her second shutout win and fourth overall for the Blazers.
The team wraps up its series against Robert Morris tomorrow at the Edge Ice Arena in Chicago. Face-off is scheduled for 2:15 pm.
