The College of Saint Benedict basketball team was defeated in a close match up to Hamline 69-65 on Sat., Jan. 17.
The first half started out with a 6-0 Hamline lead, but the Blazers never let the margin get larger than that. CSB forced 10 of the Piper's 14 turnovers in the half, and finally grasped the lead with three minutes remaining in the half. That lead never got larger than four points, and Hamline's Nikki Klinck sunk a buzzer-beater shot to tie the score at 33 at the half.
CSB senior
Nikki Carter (Edina, MN, Edina) drained a 3-pointer 30 seconds into the second half, clenching the lead for the Blazers. Though the Pipers tied the score six times throughout the game, the Blazers kept the lead until 1:30 left on the clock, at which point Hamline went 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the last minute. CSB suffered their second loss of the conference 69-65.
The Blazers were led by sophomore
Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) and junior
Mindy Schmidt (Brooklyn Park, MN, Champlin Park), who both scored 13 points. Stifter also had five steals, while Schmidt had six assists.
Up next CSB hosts Gustavus on Mon., Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Claire Lynch.
