The College of Saint Benedict (0-0 MIAC, 1-1-0) was unable to hold on in a physical match played today against Lindenwood University; losing 5-2 in an exhibition game at the MAC in St. Cloud. The team had plenty of chances offensively with 35 shots on goal, but was only able to convert on two of those scoring chances.
The Blazers were able to play evenly with the defending ACHA champions the entire game, with the only difference being the two teams ability of score on power play opportunities. Lindenwood was able to go 4-5 on power plays, scoring all their goals during that time except for their final goal which game after the Blazers had pulled their goalie. Saint Benedict finished the game 0-5 on power plays, but was able to get in nine shots during that time.
First-year Kerri Graske (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater Area) scored for the second straight game, on an assist by senior Ashley Davenport (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley) to open up the game 3:50 into the first period. Lindenwood then scored four straight goals before sophomore Gretchen Leyendecker (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) put one in the net for the Blazers in the third period while being assisted by sophomore Holly Reinking (Maple Grove, MN, Elk River). First-year Lauren Herzog (Mendota Heights, MN, Convent of the Visitation) made her first collegiate start in goal for the Blazers stopping 21-25 shots.
The Blazers take to the ice next on Nov. 4 at 7:30pm in the MAC.
