CSB Win 17th Straight Match against Scots

    The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (24-3 overall, 7-0 MIAC) won their 17th straight match and remained unbeaten in the MIAC against Macalester College, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23 and 25-15.

    The Blazers, ranked 21st in the nation, got going early against the Scots,jumping to a 13-8 lead in the first set and never fell behind.  The second set was deadlocked at 15-15 until Macalester was able to pick up the pace and finished the set with a 5-10 run to put away CSB.

    Saint Benedict claimed a commanding 20-11 lead in the third set, but the Scots capitalized on nine Blazer attack errors and brought the score withing one to 23-22.  The Blazers were able to regain possesion thanks to first-year hitter Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forrest Lake) with one of her 11 kills, and CSB finished off the set from there.

    In the final set the Blazers started off in a back and forth battle at 10-10 but finished the set and match with an impressive 15-5 run.  Junior hitter Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing)added 11 kills and 13 digs, junior setter Beth Hanson (Fairbault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) guided the Blazers with 40 assists, and junior libero Andrea Millerbernd (Littlefork, MN, Littlefork-Big Falls) led the team in digs with 16.

    The Blazers continue their three week road trip at Carleton on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
