The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (21-3 overall, 6-0 MIAC) won their first two matches at the Minnesota Border Battle, defeating Central 25-21, 27-29, 25-19, 13-25, 15-12, and prevailing over Simpson 27-25, 25-17, and 25-23.

    CSB found a tough competitor in Central College, trading back sets back and forth,  But Saint Benedict was able to win the match with a strong fifth set.

    In the opening match against host Simpson, the Blazers started off strong and never looked back, winning in straight sets.  Junior hitter Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing)led CSB with 12 kills and 10 digs, and junior setter Beth Hanson (Fairbault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) contributed 33 assists in the effort.

    The Blazers start off the second day of the tourney against Wartburg at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11.
