ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -
Megan Thompson made her debut for the College of Saint Benedict soccer team Friday, and it couldn't have gone any better.
Thompson, a first year from Inver Grove Heights, started her career by scoring four of the team's five goals to help lead CSB to a 5-1 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan. For her impressive performance, Thompson is the first CSB Athlete of the Week for 2017-18.
Scoring four goals in a game is the most any CSB soccer player has made since the mid-2000s, with two of the goals being made in the first half and the other two in the second. The eventual game-winning goal was scored in the 38
th minute of the game.
Thompson finished the game with eight points off seven total shots and four goals. All four of her shots on net were goals, and although Thompson did not start the game, she led the team in minutes played with 51 in her first collegiate game.
The win marks the CSB soccer team's third straight year scoring five goals in a game at least once throughout the season. Saint Benedict is back in action Saturday, Sept. 9, when it travels to Eau Claire, Wis., to take on UW-Eau Claire. CSB is back at SJU Sunday when it hosts Loras at 3:30 p.m.
