The College of St. Benedict basketball team is 3-0 to start off the 2016-17 season, the team’s first 3-0 start since 2013-14. To help get her team there, senior Alison Newton scored in the double digits in all three games to help her earn CSB Athlete of the Week honors.

To start off the season, Newton led the team with 11 points against UW-Superior, 15 points against Martin Luther, and 15 points against UW-Stout, helping her team to win all three games. Newton also started her season with three rebounds in each game.

In the game against UW-Superior, Newton had five fourth-quarter points in a 54-53 win. Of these five points, a 3-pointer by Newton late in the game put CSB up by four to help the team hold on for a close win to start the season. In addition to her impressive point total, Newton also had four assists and two steals against UW-Superior.

As a junior last season Newton was All-MIAC, on the All-MIAC Defensive Team and the Team MVP. Now she leads the team with an average of 13.7 points per game, and was named the MVP of the Quinlivan & Hughes Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

CSB plays its third game in the last for days Tuesday, Nov. 22, when it hosts Minnesota-Morris at 7 p.m. in Claire Lynch.
